The Story Behind the Painting

Meet my painting, ‘Der Blauwe Reiter!’ (The Blue Horseman). This unique piece evokes the impression of a rider on horseback, making it visually appealing and a nice pun. The title is namely inspired by ‘Der Blaue Reiter’, an art movement known for its bold use of colour. They were painting blue horses as early as 1911. I was truly in awe when I first saw that! This abstract painting, featuring the colours blue, orange, pink, yellow and green, is part of a series. I like working in series because it keeps me in one creative flow. This is a monotype, a one-off print. Each print is therefore unique and cannot be repeated. During the creative process, I let the existing elements and my feelings guide me. I continued to work with pastels and Indian ink on the print. I only give the work a name once it is finished. In this case, it is called 'Der Blauwe Reiter'. This robust work of art lends itself to interpretation; you can see something different in it, or simply enjoy the shapes and colours. That's the charm of abstract art: its ability to stimulate the imagination and allow you to create your own story.
