The Story Behind the Painting
Sometimes I need time to appreciate my own paintings, but I eventually discover their true beauty. Knowing when to stop is an art form in itself; continuing for too long can completely destroy the magic of a piece of work. With this particular gouache on paper piece, it is crucial not to work on it for too long. Otherwise, the colours will become dull, and the paper may be damaged — absolutely not the intention!
'Royal Blue' is a painting that initially took me some time to appreciate, but it now brings me immense joy. The beautiful royal blue radiates power and energy, and I love the sense of speed suggested by the canvas. In addition to gouache, I also used paper and chalk, making it a mixed-media piece.
